The constant current drive board for LED lights serves several critical functions.
Firstly, it acts as a current regulator. As LEDs are very sensitive to current variations, the drive board ensures that a constant current is supplied to the LED. It monitors the current flowing through the LED circuit and adjusts the output accordingly. For instance, if there is a sudden change in the input voltage, the drive board will automatically compensate to maintain the set current level. This protection against current surges and fluctuations is essential for the long term reliability of the LED.
Secondly, the constant current drive board provides voltage conversion. It steps down the input voltage (which could be from a high voltage AC source or a relatively high voltage DC source) to a level that is suitable for the LED. This voltage conversion function is crucial as it allows the LED to be powered from a wide range of power sources, whether it is a wall socket power supply or a battery based power source.
In addition, the drive board can also offer protection features. It may include over current protection, which cuts off the power supply if the current exceeds a certain threshold, preventing damage to the LED. Over voltage protection is another common feature, safeguarding the LED from excessive voltage that could cause breakdown. Some advanced constant current drive boards also have thermal protection. When the temperature of the LED or the drive board itself reaches a critical level, the drive board can reduce the current or even turn off the LED to prevent overheating and subsequent damage.
